EdTech Product UI/UX

Reducing friction for digital learners

Organization: Learning Equality

Role: UI/UX Designer

Time: April - Jun ‘19 (10 weeks)

Context

Kolibri serves learners and educators in underserved communities where internet access is expensive, unreliable, or just out of reach.

Its low-cost platform provides education to communities in 200+ countries. On this platform, educators can assign learners with content to learn at their own pace, homework assignments, and quizzes to complete to check in with their progress.

Context

The original quiz interface was causing a lot of confusion for Kolibri learners. Learners were failing their quizzes, even when they felt like they knew the content well.

Kolibri’s quiz interface needed to prioritize more intuitive navigation.

Approach

  • Competitor analysis

  • 3 rounds of prototyping

  • 10 primary research interviews with A/B testing of prototypes

Analyzing the original interface

The outcome

To create a clearer navigation flow, I focused on designing for simplicity and clarity.

Informed by research on other popular quizzing platforms and user research, I used an iterative approach to wireframing and user testing to come up with a final product proposal.
